The Western Sahara question was one of the topics discussed, Thursday, by US State Secretary Mike Pompeo and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita in Rabat.
«The US State Secretary has stressed the need for a realistic and sustainable political solution» to the conflict, a diplomatic source told Yabiladi. «At no point did Pompeo talk with Bourita about self-determination or the referendum», the same source said.
Indeed, on Thursday, the US Department of State issued a statement, indicating that Pompeo «also expressed his interest in advancing United Nations-led efforts to find a peaceful, sustainable, and mutually acceptable political solution to the long-standing dispute over the Western Sahara».
A Department of State senior official expressed the same position during a press briefing held on November 27 in Washington.
