In a press release published, Thursday, the Algerian Foreign Ministry denounced the opening of a Comoros consulate in the city of Laayoune. «It is a violation of international law (…) and an attack against the rules and principles that govern inter-African relations», read the statement relayed by the Algerian press agency APS.
The Comoros’ decision «undermines the principles governing the status of non-self-governing territories», the Algerian Ministry added.
«Algeria believes (...) that the decision of the Comorian authorities is a serious attack on the principles of solidarity which must guide relations between African countries».
This statement comes only a few hours after newly elected Algerian President said after his inauguration ceremony, held Thursday in Algiers that «the Western Sahara question is about decolonization».
Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced on Wednesday from Laayoune at the opening ceremony of the Consulate of the Comoros that four African countries are preparing to open diplomatic representations in the capital of the Sahara and in Dakhla.
