Young Muslims from across the UK decided on Wednesday January 1 to clean up the streets after New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Daily Mail reported.

More than 1,500 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) took to the streets to clean the mess caused by celebrations. Divided between London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Walsall, they collected several hundred bags of garbage.

«Many people will be out on the night of new year’s eve celebrating the start of the New Year. Thereafter, we all get together and go out on to the streets to clean up after the celebrations have ended, this isn’t just to keep our surroundings clean, but is also done to remind our young Muslim youth about the duty they have to serve their country», the group said.

The association has been organizing major cleanups for several years. It plans to extend its activities to cover other parts of the United Kingdom.
