Chefchaouen is the most Instagrammable place on earth according to British newspaper the Daily Mail. The Moroccan city rose to fame for its blue walls and unique architecture. Selfie seekers have showered the internet with their photos of Chefchaouen.
According to the same source, the hashtag «Chefchaouen» has gathered more than 620,000 posts on Instagram, with influencers, bloggers and YouTubers visiting the city.
Fodor's, a publisher of English language travel and tourism information, has even added the city to its list of places «ruined by Instagram», earlier this year.
But selfie seekers in Chafchaouen have helped locals get another source of income. The newspaper recalls that one of the town’s inhabitants has turned his house into a «museum» for tourists wanting to take photos.
Located in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen was built in the 15th century to counter the Portuguese invasion of northern Morocco. In the recent years it became an important tourist destination.
