Amid the current crisis in the Middle East, mainly in Iraq and Syria, Morocco has announced the creation of a cell to assist Moroccans living in these countries.

According to Alyaoum24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad created assistance hotlines to help nationals living in Syria, Iraq and Jordan.

The crisis in Syria and Iraq emerged after the death of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in Iraq. Iran responded by bombing American bases in Iraq.

The establishment of this cell comes as a Moroccan political party pleaded this week for the establishment of a parliamentary information mission to visit the two countries to inquire about the situation of Moroccan nationals.

The proposition was submitted by PAM MP Abdellatif Ouahbi, who called for the «repatriation of Moroccan children held in Syria and Iraq».
