Ignoring the UN’s recent comments on respecting civilian and commercial traffic in Guerguerat, the Secretary General of the Polisario Front sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
In his letter, Brahim Ghali noted with «surprise and dissatisfaction», the statement of the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the Africa Eco Race.
«It is astonishing and utterly unacceptable that the United Nations has so far remained silent in the face of the continued escalation and provocations by Morocco», he wrote, accusing the UN of having «reinforced the impression that the regular civilian and commercial traffic through the Buffer Strip in Guerguerat is important». Moreover, Ghali called for the closure of the border crossing connecting Morocco to Mauritania.
For the record, the UN Secretary General underlined in a statement the importance «to allow for regular civilian and commercial traffic» to proceed in Guerguerat and to refrain from any action that may constitute a change to the status quo of the Buffer Strip, after the Front threatened to block the Africa Eco Race.
