Dutch police arrested, Sunday, four people, foiling their attempt to spring a Mocro-Mafia prisoner known as Omar L., AFP reports.

The suspects were trying to help the man escape the Zutphen prison, west of Amsterdam, after setting a van on fire, police said in a statement relayed by the French news agency.

«It seems that an organized prison break had been attempted», Dutch police said, adding that «several persons tried to breach the prison, but the attempt was foiled, no one escaped».

Police’s report did not give further details, but Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claimed that the four suspects were trying to help a «senior member of the so-called ‘Mocro-Mafia’ gangs» escape prison.

Known as Omar L., the latter is currently serving a life sentence for «two killings and three attempted killings».

For the record, Mocro-Mafia members are mostly of Moroccan and Antillean origin.
