Participating for the first time as Algeria’s President in an African Union Summit, Abdelmajid Tebboune addressed the Western Sahara question.
He revealed, in a speech, that he had «urged» the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a letter to appoint a new personal envoy to the Sahara as soon as possible, Algerian newspaper TSA reports.
Moreover, the Algerian President asked Guterres to «relaunch the political process to settle the Western Sahara question».
For the record, former UN personal envoy to the Sahara Horst Köhler resigned in May 2019 due to health reasons.
