Algeria has confirmed the first coronavirus case within its borders, the Algerian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.

The person in question is an Italian national who arrived in Algeria on February 17. He has been placed in isolation after he tested positive for coronavirus, the ministry said.

The coronavirus case in Algeria comes as the number of confirmed cases in Italy has jumped to more than 300. Several European countries have announced their first coronavirus cases, with all appearing to be linked to the growing outbreak in Italy, BBC wrote.

For the record, the World Health Organization announced that 80,134 cases have been announced in the world and 2,698 deaths have been linked to the deadly virus.
