Danish business conglomerate with activities in the transport, logistics and energy sectors Maersk has decided to temporarily leave the port of Malaga for the Tanger-Med 2 port in Morocco.

According to Malaga Hoy, Maersk’s decision comes after the company noticed that ship activities have decreased in Malaga in February. The Danish firm has therefore decided to bring its activities to Tanger-Med 2.

«It is mainly due to the cost of transits as the possibility for Maersk to bring its ships to the Tangier terminal is much more profitable than leaving them in Malaga», the same source added.

The media indicates that this departure will affect the general statistics of the port of Malaga, recalling that Maersk had already left this area in 2013, after having used the facilities of the port since its inauguration in 2004.
