A British tourist arrested after trying to smuggle a large quantity of medical masks from Morocco

Police at the Agadir Massira Airport arrested, Saturday, a British national who was trying to smuggle 17,000 medical masks to England.

According Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar, the English tourist of Indian origin had purchased masks from several pharmacies in Agadir, before packing them in suitcases and transporting them to the airport. He planned to transport them to England, a country where 36 people had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Scanners at the airport checkpoint detected this large quantity of goods. Arrested, the man in question told the police that he believed this operation was legal and did not require any administrative or customs procedures.

Immediately after his arrest by the airport police, the customs services seized the goods and opened an investigation.
