Authorities in Addis Ababa decided, Thursday, to recall eight of its diplomats abroad, including ambassadors Girum Abay (Brussels), Fesseha Shawel (London) and Yeshi Tamerat (Morocco).

According to Ethiopian newspaper Addis Standard, the country’s ambassadors to Egypt, Algeria, Sudan, Australia and Cuba were also recalled.

«What prompted the mass recalling of these top envoys abroad is unclear», wrote the newspaper, adding that a «source close to the matter described the recalling of Girum from Brussels and Ambassador Fesseha from London as totally unexpected and bizarre».

However, according to Al Mayadeen, foreign ministers of the Arab League member states have decided, earlier in March, to support Egypt in its negotiations with Ethiopia concerning the Renaissance dam, built by Addis- Ababa on the Nile.

Ethiopia, invited by the League, boycotted the summit, which comes at a time when the US administration has also supported Cairo on this issue.
