After Italy has implemented emergency coronavirus measures to the entire country, imposing travel restrictions, several Italian tourists have seen their flights from Morocco to Italy canceled.

Speaking to Italian daily newspaper Corriere Della Serra, a group of Italian tourists in Agadir said that they are blocked in the North African Kingdom and could not return to Italy Monday as scheduled before.

«We left for Agadir in Morocco on March 2 (…) We had to go back on Monday evening but after the ban all flights to Italy have been canceled», one of the tourists, currently stranded in Morocco, told the Italian daily.

The same tourist said that around a hundred Italians from Busto Arsizio and Piedmont have seen their flights back home annulled. The tourists said that Italy’s travel ban has taken them by surprise.

«We didn't even get the message that the government had closed everything», one of the Italian tourists told the same source.

After they tried to reach the Italian consulates in Morocco, the stranded tourists have finally managed to reach the Italian embassy in Rabat. «They tried to help us secure other flights but it is very difficult», one of the tourists told Corriere.

Yabiladi was unable to reach the Italian embassy in Rabat for a comment probably due to the big number of calls from Italian tourists.
