Morocco records 50 new infections, four deaths and a recovery, 275 in total

50 new confirmed coronavirus cases were recorded, Thursday, in Morocco, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 275, a Health Ministry official said during a press briefing.

In addition to the new confirmed infections, Morocco recorded four coronavirus-related deaths. Two of the deceased patients tested positive for the virus in Marrakech while the two others died in Casablanca and Rabat.

The four people who died from the virus had their health conditions deteriorate because of chronic illnesses and/or age. The four coronavirus-related deaths bring the number of people deceased due to the virus to 10.

The official announced, during the same briefing, that a new confirmed coronavirus case has recovered, bringing the number of recoveries to 8. She also indicated that the number of people who tested negative for the virus so far is 931.

As for the location of the cases, the official reported that 87 of the confirmed cases are in the Casablanca-Settat region, 51 are in Fes-Meknes, 50 in Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and 40 are in the Marrakech-Safi region. The rest of the confirmed cases are located in other Moroccan regions, with the exception of two regions (southern provinces of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab) that have not recorded any confirmed cases so far.

The official indicated that 72% of the confirmed coronavirus cases are more than 40 years old.

The Health Ministry official also said that 2,341 individuals who had been in contact with those tested positive are still under surveillance, while 669 others have left the quarantine.
