The first confirmed coronavirus cases recorded in the city of Marrakech left the hospital Wednesday after they fully recovered.

The French couple Laurent and Jennifer Balestra and their nine-month old daughter tested positive for coronavirus while in Morocco on March 8. The family has «fully recovered» and will return to France on a special plane chartered by their country, AFP reports.

The 51-year-old real estate agent who lives in the suburbs of Paris had felt unwell on his way to Marrakech for a short tourist stay with his family. He asked to be screened shortly after his arrival.

«I am happy and I want to tell everyone that you have to be optimistic but also to be very careful: yes, we can be cured of (the disease) Covid-19, yes it is a treacherous and deceitful virus», he told AFP.

The family «remained under observation for three weeks in a public hospital in Marrakech, and declined the use of chloroquine as a treatment», the same source reported.

Morocco has so far recorded 735 confirmed coronavirus cases, 49 recoveries and 47 deaths.
