91 confirmed coronavirus cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing to 1,275 the total number of Covid-19 infections in Morocco, Mohamed Lyoubi, who heads the infectious diseases department at the Health Ministry, said Wednesday during a press briefing.

As for the death toll, Lyoubi said that in total 93 people died after contracting the virus in Morocco while 97 recovered.

The official revealed that the regions of Casabalanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Fes-Meknes house the highest number of Covid-infections in Morocco, adding that most of the infections were recorded within the same families.

Lyoubi said that 8,600 people were in close contact with confirmed cases. 445 of them tested positive for the virus. He also explained that 16% of the confirmed cases were asymptomatic, 70% presented mild conditions and 14% presented severe ones.

Lyoubi indicated that «most of the newly confirmed cases were recorded in the same households and within the same families». «We have noticed that the new epicenters exist within families, with all the members of the same household testing positive for the virus», Lyoubi said.
