Moroccans in the Italian town of Bergamo continue to show more solidarity with their host country. On Sunday, they distributed Moroccan sweets at the Alpine field hospital in Bergamo. The initiative was carried out by a team led by the President of Civil Protection, Giuseppe Castelli and Abdessamad Lamhanchi, member of the city's Council of foreigners, Montagne e Paesi reports.
These sweets were homemade by Moroccan mothers and delivered to the field hospital installed in a fair.
«The volunteers and staff present at the fair greatly appreciated our gesture. We hope that this difficult period will make us all stronger and united», said Abdessamad Lamhanchi, quoted by the media.
In a letter to the city's municipality, the Moroccan community said that it is «close» to the Italians and that its members «pray that this situation will end soon». «We want to show more than ever our proximity to all these health workers, Civil Protection and Red Cross volunteers who fight on the front lines every day», the letter says. The request was quickly approved by the municipality.
It should be noted that other Moroccan associations in Bergamo are participating in the surge of solidarity within this municipality, by also distributing meals and baskets of food to needy families.
