Morocco records 163 new confirmed coronavirus cases, 3,209 in total

As of Tuesday evening, April 21, Morocco recorded 163 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 3,209.

During the daily press briefing devoted to the pandemic situation in Morocco, the head of the epidemiology and the fight against infectious diseases department at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed Lyoubi indicated that 14,891 suspected cases have tested negative for the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Two deaths have been recorded, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country to 145. Morocco also recorded 43 recoveries, bringing the number of patients who recovered from the disease to 393.

The 163 new confirmed cases were mostly recorded in hotbeds formerly discovered by the sanitary authorities in Casablanca and Tangier : factories. The third and new hotbed is a Ouerzazate facility.

Mohamed Lyoubi indicated that the fatality rate is falling. It is now at 4.5%, against 12.2% for the recovery rate.

95% of the confirmed cases showed no to mild symptoms upon admission to the hospital, while 5% were in critical or severe condition. 

The regions with the highest infections are Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi, which house more than 50% of the confirmed cases.
