Dutch-Moroccans stranded in Morocco because of the coronavirus travel ban have sent a letter to King Mohammed VI, asking for their repatriation. Sent Friday to Yabiladi, the letter addressed to the sovereign referred to the critical situations of some of them.
«Sick and elderly people are running out of medicines that are not available here, parents are abruptly separated from their children, which entails various psychological complications, workers and entrepreneurs cannot meet their obligations», read the letter.
«Financial resources are running out, as most of us are visiting Morocco for a short period of time and have not expected a long stay of this order», they added. «Your Majesty, Commander of the Faithful, We, your loyal subjects and Dutch tourists, all fall under one or more of the distressing cases mentioned above. That is why we ask and beg for your kindness and humanity», they said.
For the record, 3,000 Dutch nationals, including those of Moroccan descent, are stranded in Morocco amid coronavirus lockdown. Awaiting repatriation, the group is expected to fly back to the Netherlands by this weekend.
Speaking on Friday during a government meeting, Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok said that he is «fully committed» to helping the 3,000 Dutch people return home. «I am in close contact with the Moroccan authorities regarding this and I would like to bring that to a fruitful end», he revealed.
