Russia this week unveiled a list of countries that would have asked for its help to fight the new coronavirus pandemic.

According to Russia Today, a Russian official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that 13 Arab states in the Middle East and North Africa would have asked Moscow for help in coping with the pandemic.

«Concerning the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan and Tunisia made the same request», the Russian official said. He also assured that «the Russian authorities are currently studying these requests».

Russia crossed several symbolic thresholds in the official coronavirus report on Thursday, registering 1,073 deaths since the start of the pandemic and more than 100,000 cases in total. While it had been spared for a time, the country is facing an acceleration of contamination, writes the AFP.
