Morocco records 215 new recoveries and 150 additional coronavirus cases

As of Monday, Morocco recorded 150 cases of the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 5,053.

The number of suspected cases that tested negative for the virus stands at 40,249, Mohamed Lyoubi, head of the epidemiology and fight against infectious diseases department at the Ministry of Health, said during the daily press briefing.

The official noted that the new cases were mainly recorded in four regions, namely Fez-Meknes, Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima. During the same period, six regions have not registered any cases : Draâ-Tafilalet, the Oriental, Souss-Massa, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab.

Mohamed Lyoubi recalled that most of the new cases detected remain asymptomatic, explaining that most of them were in close contact with already confirmed cases.

Between Sunday and Monday, Morocco also recorded five deaths related to the coronavirus, bringing the total number of people who have died since the start of the pandemic in the country to 179, added Mohamed Lyoubi, explaining that the fatality rate reached, thereby, 3.5%.

Morocco also recorded 215 recoveries over the same period, bringing the number of patients who recovered from Covid-19 to 1,653.
