As of Wednesday, May 6, Morocco recorded 189 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 5,408.
«Among these new cases, 162, or 86%, were detected thanks to the medical follow-up of people who were in close contact with previously confirmed cases, which explains why we have asymptomatic cases or others with mild symptoms», said Mohamed Lyoubi, head of the epidemiology department at the Health Ministry.
During the daily press briefing, he said that 3,199 suspected cases were excluded between Tuesday and Wednesday after they tested negative for the virus, bring the total number of excluded suspected cases to 47,550.
«Casablanca-Settat (26%) and Marrakech-Safi (21%) still have the highest number of infections, Laayoune-Sakia-El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab remain Covid-19 free», he said.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday, Morocco recorded two deaths from the coronavirus, 183 in total, while the fatality rate fell to 3.4%, still less than the world average set at 7%.
Morocco also recorded, over the same period, 179 recoveries, bringing to 2,017 the number of patients who recovered from Covid-19. «We are proud to have crossed the 2,000 mark, knowing that the recovery rate continues to increase, now reaching 37.3% while the world average is 34%», he concluded.
