Morocco records an increase in agricultural food products exports despite the health crisis

Compared to the previous season, exports of Moroccan market garden products grew by 6%, with 1,077,000 tons sent abroad. Over the same period, which runs from September 1 to May 9, processed agricultural products (excluding sugar) exports grew by more than 17%.

Tomato exports increased by 4% over the same period, going from 492,000 tons to 514,000 tons, said a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture. According to the same source, 112,000 tons of green beans were exported this year compared to nearly 102,000 the previous season, hence a 10% increase. Exports of red fruit increased by 25%, from 66,000 tons to 82,500.

In addition, watermelon exports grew by 61%, going from 65,000 tons to 104,400 tons. «Avocado exports reached a volume of around 32 800 tons during this season as of May 9, nearly three times the volumes recorded during the previous season (11,200 tons)», the ministry added. However, citrus exports fell by 28% due to the decline in production.
