The Court of Cassation annulled, in April, the ruling of the investigating chamber at the Paris Appeal Court which referred the case of Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to the Assize court, French daily Le Parisien reports.

He was accused of rape and aggravated violence against Laura P., a young woman, now 23 years old, for events that occurred in October, 2016 in a Paris hotel.

After launching its inquiry, said court concluded that the charges held against the singer constitute an aggravated sexual assault and violence and referred him back to the criminal court.

The court’s decision, made public on April 22, considers that the investigation chamber’s decision «does not, in form, meet the essential conditions for its legal existence». «In other words, the code of criminal procedure was not respected», the newspaper explained.

The Court thus ordered that the Paris investigating chamber, made up of other magistrates, examine the case again.
