Spanish police arrested, Thursday, four people accused of belonging to a terrorist cell headed by a Moroccan.

According to Spanish newspaper ABC, the cell leader, who fled Morocco, has been in the crosshairs of investigators for years. It is believed that he escaped a Moroccan operation led by the Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

After he settled down in Barcelona, his movements were investigated by the authorities. He then moved to southern Madrid. Nevertheless, he is said to have «shown a clear intention to carry out attacks» which led to his arrest.

The Moroccan, according to the Spanish authorities, had contacts with ISIS fighters and used for his communications an advanced system, which destroys all messages once read.
