Morocco records 78 new coronavirus cases, mostly in the city of Casablanca

As of Thursday, May 21, 78 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Morocco, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections to 7,211.

Two deaths were recorded during the same period, bringing the death toll to 196. The fatality rate remains stable at 2.7%. 182 new recoveries were recorded in Morocco, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,280, which increases the recovery rate to 59.4%.

The majority of the new infections were recorded in the city of Casablanca, said Mohamed Lyoubi, head of the epidemiology department at the Heath Ministry. Other cases have been recorded in Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, he added.

Mohamed Lyoubi recalled that the cases recorded remain asymptomatic or mild and have been discovered among people who were in close contact with previously infected Moroccans.
