Morocco records 27 new coronavirus cases, the lowest number since the start of lockdown

As of Sunday, May 24, Morocco recorded 27 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of Covid_19 infections in the country to 7,433.

During the daily press briefing, the head of the epidemiology department at the Ministry of Health Mohamed Lyoubi said that 23 of these new infections were in close contact with previously confirmed cases.

One death was recorded during the last 24 hours. He is a patient suffering from several chronic diseases, Mohamed Lyoubi said. The total number of deaths due to covid-19 reaches 199 and the fatality rate stands at 2.7%. 65 recoveries were recorded between Saturday and Sunday, 4,703 in total.

The number of active cases reached 2,531. These are patients still being treated in hospital cells, as well as people who have recovered but have remained under medical supervision.

Lyoubi said that Casablanca-Settat remains the most affected region by the pandemic, with 32.2% of Morocco's total cases. It is followed by Marrakech-Safi with nearly 18%, Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma and Fès-Meknes with approximately 13%, then by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Drâa-Tafilalet.
