In the middle of a global health crisis, Indonesia has announced that it is cancelling this season’s Hajj. «The government has now decided to cancel the hajj trip for 2020», the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs announced, Tuesday, during a press conference, Al Jazeera reports.
«This is truly a difficult decision for us to make and we know many people are upset», the Minister added.
Meanwhile in Morocco, the situation is still unclear. On May 28, the Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Taoufik told the Foreign Affairs Committee at the House of Representatives that he «has no official notification from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj regarding» this issue.
Taoufiq revealed that «so far, we have not signed any contracts related to accommodation, transport and other services» for Moroccan pilgrims. Saudi Arabia has not reopened the Hajj trip for any country due to the coronavirus health crisis.
