Moroccan actor Youssef Kerkour announced, Thursday, that he has received his first British Academy Film Awards nomination for his role in British comedy series, Home.
On the same day, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) unveiled the list of nominees for the 2020 awards. Youssef Kerkour was nominated for Best Male Comedy Performance for his role as Sami Ibrahim, a Syrian refugee, in Home, the National reports.

«It is a tremendous honour to be nominated in such stellar company», he wrote on his Twitter account. In Home, the Rabat-born actor plays the role of a Syrian asylum seeker who moves in with a middle class family in south London after he was found in their car.
Kerkour attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in London where he currently lives. The series was written in 2015 to counter anti-immigration rhetoric in the UK.
For the record, Baftas winners for 2020 will be announced on Friday July 17.
