Spanish police arrested a Moroccan jihadist in northern Madrid this week. The suspect, accused of joining a terrorist organization, was plotting a terror attack, police sources told ABC.

The operation included the arrest of three people in Almeria and the dismantling of a cell in Bolanos de Calatrava (Ciudad Real), ABC recalls.

The Moroccan, permanently residing in Spain, was arrested on Tuesday in a building in Guadalix de la Sierra. Counterterrorism experts from the police have been monitoring the suspect for several months. They found that during the lockdown, he «radicalized even more, to the point of having sworn allegiance to Daesh».

The Moroccan also has «several false profiles on a platform used mainly by terrorists in which he wrote messages such as 'Thank Allah for the coronavirus which is ravaging Europe'». An explosives manufacturing manual was seized during the raid, police said.
