9,500 travelers were repatriated from Morocco with the help of the British Embassy in Rabat. In a press release, the embassy reported that the returnees were brought home through 58 commercial flights.
The operations were carried with the help of the Moroccan authorities, airlines and ferry companies, and the British Honorary Consulate in Marrakech. The British Embassy in Rabat «organized transportation which enabled travelers to reach departure airports from several locations in Morocco», read the same communiqué.
British tourists have been collected in Oujda, Berkane, Jerada, Ahfir, Tagounite, Zagora, Ras El Ma, Sidi Ifni, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Midelt, Chefchaouen, and many other cities.
80% of the repatriated travelers were British while the rest are people from more than 25 countries. Most of them are Irish, German, French nationals and Australians, who had to return home via the UK.
«We continue to support British nationals in Morocco who need help and we offer the latest travel advice to Morocco through our Travel Advice which is available on the British government website gov.uk», said the British ambassador to Morocco Thomas Reilly.
For British nationals who are still stranded in Morocco, the British Embassy in Rabat can add their names to a waiting list as it is working with other embassies to offer the option of purchasing a ticket to a European country.
