Spain plans to reopen its borders with Morocco on July 1. On Sunday, the president of Melilla Eduardo de Castro made the announcement during a press briefing, El Faro de Melilla reports.
He said that he was informed of the decision by the head of government, Pedro Sanchez, during a virtual meeting held on Sunday June 14.
Opening borders might not be a reciprocated action as Spain expects Morocco to keep its borders closed until winter due to works.
For the record, Spain will open its borders to countries in the European Union’s Schengen area on June 21, except for Portugal where the border will open on July 1. The country also announced that its borders with countries outside the Schengen area, will be opened on July 1.
