During a meeting with elected officials, Monday, Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit insisted on the role played by Moroccans in reinforcing the authorities’ efforts to stem the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
At the House of Representatives, Laftit highlighted «the unprecedented national mobilization» of Moroccans which led to «positive results» and helped «control the epidemiological situation» in the country.
The Interior Minister is full of praise for the «responsiveness of Moroccans with the measures put in place by the authorities to protect citizens», highlighting «their commitment». Praise was also extended to unions, political parties and NGOs.
Grouping of active cases
Laftit addressed the main lines of the government's vision for the next period, referring to «precisely determined» measures applied since June 11. «These decisions bring together the protection of citizens, relaunching the economy and preparing for the return to normal life while controlling the virus», he said.
«It was necessary, for the success of this operation, that the government delegate to walis and governors, according to the decree extending the state of health emergency, the management of this stage», he declared. Abdelouafi Laftit also addressed the grouping of active cases in two hospitals in Benslimane and Ben Guerir.
«This decision is based on the need to reopen hospitals to the public to treat other illnesses, protect active cases and their families and work environments, and reduce the length of care», he added.
Citizens as a «top priority»
The Minister’s discourse was an opportunity for the official to take stock of the various interventions of the Ministry of Interior during the past three months.
«All of these initiatives continue to depend on the citizens' support for the efforts made. I am again addressing the public to download the Wiqaytna contact tracing application, which will provide a new channel for identifying and monitoring contacts and will help make decisions to fight the spread of this pandemic and overcome it», he explained.
For the Minister of Interior, «our country has been firm in taking united and necessary preventive measures and actions, in an anticipatory and courageous manner, according to a well-studied vision, thanks to the high royal instructions». «However, the danger remains as long as the virus continues to spread, even in a controlled manner, among citizens and in all countries», he said.
While again calling on all citizens to «continue to adhere to the preventive measures», Laftit affirmed that «the next step will continue to require the spirit of citizenship and patriotism and responsibility to strengthen efforts undertaken and preserving the achievements».
«History will retain the audacity, wisdom and speed of the Moroccan state to take sovereign and anticipatory decisions to preserve the health, dignity and future of the citizens by placing them at the head of priorities and national choices», he concluded.
