Hundreds of people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the outskirts of the city of Kenitra, Western Morocco, a well-informed source told Yabiladi. Most of these cases were recorded in an industrial area in Lalla Mimouna, a commune near the city.
On Friday afternoon, hundreds of people tested positive for the virus, the same source said, adding that they would undergo a second test to rule out any false positive occurence.
The same source blamed the unprecedented rise in the number of cases on the tendency of neglecting preventive measures imposed by the sanitary authorities within industrial units.
Closing the area to avoid infections
Today, the local authorities blocked all roads leading to Lalla Mimouna in an attempt to limit the spread of the virus, it added. The area is in a state of alert given the big number of infections and the tracing of their contacts.
The same source indicated that ambulances are transporting the cases from their homes towards Moulay Bousselham, to board buses that would take them to the hospital field in Benslimane.
After a decrease in the number of daily confirmed cases, the current situation has created a wave of fear and panic on social media. In an attempt to get more details, Yabiladi couldn’t reach the Ministry of Health, and its regional office in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region.
Later today, the Ministry of Health announced that 539 new confirmed cases were recorded in Morocco during the past 24 hours, with 457 cases in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region only.
