In an attempt to further ease lockdown measures, the Ministries of Health and Interior announced, Saturday evening that all Moroccan provinces and regions will be part of zone 1 with the exception of Marrakech, Larache, Kenitra and the Tangier-Asilah provinces.

Earlier this month, the two ministries had divided Morocco into two major zones : 1 and 2. The inhabitants of zone 1 have been allowed to freely go outside without having to carry a special authorization and have been able to open businesses and resume commercial activities.

The abovementioned provinces, maintained in zone 2, will have to abide by lockdown measures, which require having a special authorization to be outside and an 8-pm curfew.

According to the two ministries the decision was based on the tracking of the epidemiological situation in said regions. The measure, however, will enter into force on June 24 at midnight.

Kenitra, one of the provinces kept in zone 1, has recorded today a large number of Covid-19 infections. According to the Health Ministry, an industrial unit near the city, Lalla Mimouna, recorded more than 457 confirmed cases. The number is the highest since the start of the pandemic.
