The Ministries of the Interior, Health and that of Industry, Trade and the Green and Digital Economy announced, Sunday, a series of decisions expected to further ease lockdown measures in Morocco. These decisions will be implemented on June 24 at midnight, loosening some strict measures and resuming commercial activities.

The three ministries revealed that starting from next Thursday, cafés and restaurants will be able to receive patrons on site, but without exceeding 50% of their seating capacity. Shopping malls will also be reopened under specific conditions. Leisure and entertainment stores, sports halls and public baths will reopen, provided they do not exceed 50% of their capacity.

In addition, activities related to audiovisual and cinematographic production will resume. Public transport between the cities of zone 1, by road, air or rail, will again be possible simply by presenting an ID card.

Beaches will be reopened to the public, on the condition of practicing social distancing. The same thing goes for hotel activities, which will be resumed but will be required to operate with no more than 50% of the accommodation and reception capacity.

Easing containment in zone 2

As for zone 2, containment will also be eased through a series of measures. Workers will no longer need exceptional exit permits to leave the house. However, people having to leave this zone for professional purposes will have to provide a document from their employer or a permission issued by the local authorities.

Also in zone 2, the compulsory closing of stores at 8 pm will be lifted, in addition to allowing hair and beauty salons to accommodate clients at 50% of their capacity. Open public spaces, including parks and gardens will once again be accessible. Individual outdoor sports activities will also be allowed.

At the national level, all other preventive restrictions, as part of the state of health emergency, will remain maintained, such as the closing of museums, cinemas, theaters, swimming pools, in addition to the ban on gatherings (weddings, funerals, events…).

These announced measures are aligned with the deconfinement plan of the Ministry of Health, which we published on June 10.
