Azzedine Soufiane was one of the six men killed in the attack that targeted the Quebec mosque in January 2017. The 57-year-old father of three was shot while trying to disarm the terrorist. Soufiane is one of the 123 Canadians honored by the Quebec Governor General Julie Payette.

Soufiane, who died trying to stop the attacker, was posthumously awarded, Wednesday, the Star of Courage, the second-highest award for bravery in Canada after the Cross of Valour.

Four survivors of the attack, Said Akjour, Hakim Chambaz, Aymen Derbali and Mohamed Khabar, were among 13 people receiving the Medal of Bravery.

The shooting killed six people and injured eight others on January 29, 2017. It was claimed by a young far-right terrorist. Due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus, these distinctions will be presented during a ceremony, the date of which has not yet been announced.
