The number of irregular migrants that reached Ceuta by sea in the past six months continues to decline, according to recent data published by the Spanish Interior Ministry.
Quoted by El Faro de Ceuta, the report reveals that only 50 people reached the autonomous city by swimming or by boat between January 1 and June 30. Last year during the same period, 254 migrants reached Ceuta, which shows a drop of 80.3%.
The same report indicates that during the last fifteen days only four irregular migrants entered Ceuta.
On the other hand, 179 people reached Ceuta by land between January 1 and June 30. The number has significantly dropped when compared to the previous year. During the past 15 days, ten people entered Ceuta by land.
The same trend was observed in Melilla, according to the same report. The number of irregular migrant land arrivals dropped by 48.8% between January and June 2020 when compared to the same period last year : 1,153 arrivals vs. 2,251.
The city recorded five irregual migrant sea arrivals during the same period. In Spain, Nationally, the irregular migrant sea and land decreased by 35.54% compared to last year, concludes the report.
