American media-services provider and production company Netflix released on Friday exclusive behind the scene images and clips for its new film The Old Guard, a 2020 American superhero movie directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka.

The film has several of its scenes shot in Marrakech, Morocco. «The shooting in Morocco lasted for around two weeks, with the support of a big local team who helped the filmmakers and the team with all the on-ground logistics needed», Netflix Egypt wrote in a press release sent to Yabiladi.

In the movie, Marrakech appears as Afghanistan and some parts of Africa. «The shooting locations in Marrakech included the El Fenn hotel, the Berber village of Obaki on the Plateau du Kik (a region in the Atlas Mountains that doubled as an Afghan village), as well as the Jemaa el-Fnaa marketplace, Tamansourt, Harbil, Tayzelt, the Agafay Desert, Boukhriss, and Kettara», the same source added.

To create the move, Netflix partnered with local artists to create a poster that includes Morocco landmarks in the movie. «It reflects the presence of the movie stars in Morocco iconic places such as Jemaa el-Fnaa marketplace», it explained.

The Old Guard tells the story of a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron) who leads a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with mysterious immortality. Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the last soldier to join their ranks, will fight to help the group eliminate the threat from those who seek to reproduce and monetize their power by all means. The story is based on the novel by Greg Rucka.
