The French pizza maker found guilty of deliberately plowing into a flock of sheep at Plage David, has filed a complaint against the man who filmed the viral video that immortalizes the attack, well-informed sources told Yabiladi.

Speaking to Yabiladi, Friday, Mohamed Zerhani confirmed that he «was summoned by the Royal Gendarmerie in El Mansouria». «When I asked why, I was told that it was a complaint made against me by the French pizza maker because of the video I filmed», he said.

«I asked not to make statements until my lawyer was present. So, today I will go to the Gendarmerie to find out more», he added.

Zerhani’s lawyer Youssef Rharib, who is also the lawyer of the owner of the flock of sheep, Hassan Chtioui, confirmed to Yabiladi that he will defend Mohamed Zerhani.

An appeal ruling

The new case comes as the Court of Appeal is expected to deliver a ruling next week. «We have already appealed the decision (in May, ed) and await its review by the Court of Appeal next Wednesday», said Youssef Rharib.

This case dates back to May 2, when Michel Schelle, a French national who resides in Morocco, deliberately crushed a flock of sheep, making death threats against a young shepherd at Plage David, a beach near the city of Mohammedia. The heinous act was filmed and shared on social media.

The next day, the pizza maker was heard by the Gendarmerie. On Monday, May 18, after a first postponed hearing, the judge of the Benslimane court sentenced him to one month in prison.

The French national residing in Morocco, was also ordered to pay Hassan Chtioui, the herd’s owner, 20,000 Dh as compensation. The latter, like his lawyer, had denounced the «ruling» and had decided to appeal it.

Released in June, after having served his sentence, Michel Schelle is forbidden from leaving the national territory, pending the verdict of the Court of Appeal.

Sources close to the case, however, reported that this French national, originally from Lyon, would have committed similar acts against animals in the past. He would have, therefore, «intentionally hit and killed a dog in June 2019», the same sources added.
