Journalist Hamid El Mahdaoui left the Tifelt 2 prison this morning after serving a three-year prison sentence.

The founder and editor-in-chief of the online news website Badil.info was sentenced in 2017 for «not denouncing an attempt to harm the internal security of the country».

«Relatives, activists and journalists were waiting for him when he left Tifelt 2 prison», Le Desk reports.

Hamid El Mahdaoui is known for his support for the demands of Hirak activists. The journalist was arrested in Al Hoceima where he was staying to cover one of the protests. His case was initially part of the trials of Hirak detainees.

Since his conviction in first instance, national and international NGOs had called for his release.
