Moroccan singer Dounia Batma sentenced to eight months in blackmail case

Moroccan singer Dounia Batma was sentenced, Wednesday, to eight months in prison for her involvement in a blackmail scandal known as «Hamza mon BB».

The singer was sentenced by the Marrakech first instance court alongside her sister Ibtissam Batma. The latter was sentenced to one year in prison while Aicha Ayach, also involved in the case, was given an-18 months prison sentence.

As for the so-called «S.Ch», she was sentenced to 10 months in prison. The four women were fined 10,000 dirhams. The court also ordered the Batma sisters to pay, jointly, the sum of 20,000 dirhams as compensation for the benefit of the civil party as well as legal costs.

The defendants were accused of participating in fraudulent access to computer system data, willfully participating in obstructing the operation of this system, disseminating images and statements by others without their consent, spreading unfounded facts with the aim of invading the privacy of individuals and defamation as well as blackmail.
