Since Thursday evening, members of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have been deployed in different parts of Tangier, to ensure the strengthening of lockdown measures in the city.
According to local online newspaper Tanja 24, military patrols and vehicles were seen crisscrossing several neighborhoods of the city.
The soldiers must thus contribute to «restricting movement in the neighborhoods and regions with a significant increase in Covid-19 cases», the same source added.
Well-informed sources confirmed that these military patrols will be supported by elements of the national security and auxiliary forces, with the aim of dealing with cases of violations of the health emergency and quarantine measures that the authorities are preparing to apply in said quarters.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, concrete barriers were also put in place at several avenues.
The city of Tangier has seen a remarkable increase in the number of new infections and deaths caused by Covid-19 in recent weeks.
