Cheb Khaled is at the heart of a new controversy. His latest music video features the Moroccan flag alongside those of Lebanon and Algeria. The song is a tribute to the Lebanese people after the deadly blast that took place on August 4 in Beirut.
The music video, however, was not that appreciated by Algerians, Observalgérie reports. Indeed, Algerian Internet users called Cheb Khaled a «traitor».
Insults that the singer did not ignore. «They shame us. We must all be united on this earth which is very bad at the moment. They focus on belonging to a country they dishonor», wrote Cheb Khaled on his official Instagram account. He proudly said that he is «above all a citizen of the world».
This is not the first time that Algerians criticize the singer because of his links with Morocco. «In July 2019, the Algerian singer annoyed Algerians by releasing a song to cheer the Moroccan team during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations 2019», the same source recalls.
Cheb Khaled was granted the Moroccan citizenship in since 2013.
