Moroccan theater figurehead and former minister Touria Jabrane died on Monday. The actress, also known as Saâdia Kritif, her real name, was born in Casablanca in 1952.

The Moroccan artist enjoyed a long career in theater and cinema, where she made herself known by her stage name, marking several generations of artists and fans in Morocco. Touria Jabrane began her artistic career in the early 1970s with the Tayeb Seddiki theater company.

The famous actress eventually became Minister of Culture (October 15, 2007 - July 29, 2009) in the Abbas El Fassi government. Her departure from the government was influenced partly by her deteriorating state of health.

A versatile artist, she distinguished herself on television and in cinema, but also on stage with the Al Yaoum Theater troupe during the 1990s, alongside actors Mohamed Bastaoui, Abdellatif Khammouli and Mohamed Khouyi. A flagship experience in the history of this art in Morocco which crossed red lines, at times.
