On Tuesday, August 25, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita received the United Arab Emirates’ new ambassador to Rabat. Al Asri Saeed Ahmed Al Dhaheri «came to present his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to His Majesty King Mohammed VI», the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in a statement .

In July, a Saudi media revealed the appointment of this Emirati diplomat, adding that he had already served as an ambassador for the UAE in Morocco from 2011 to 2016.

The post of Ambassador of Abu Dhabi in Rabat had been vacant since the departure, over a year ago, of Ali Salem Al Kaabi who was officially summoned «for consultation» in response to a similar decision taken by the Moroccan Ministry of foreign Affairs.

The Bourita-Al Dhaheri meeting comes almost two weeks after the peace agreement of August 13, signed between by the UAE and Israel. Israeli media claim that Mohamed Ben Zayed is trying to convince Arab and Muslim countries to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
