Morocco : The container port of Tanger Med ranked 35th in the world

Morocco’s Tangier Med port is the 35th most important container port in the world, according to the Lloyd’s List ranking.

It is also the leading container transshipment port in the Mediterranean, ranked first in Africa for the third year in a row, a statement said.

The same source points out that this ranking includes the top 120 ports in the world out of 500 with a container activity. «The Tanger Med port achieved in 2019 : 4.8 million containers, thus recording the best progression of the top 50 with growth of + 38%».

In Africa, «Tanger Med is followed by Port Said in Egypt in 45th place (3.86 million containers), Durban in South Africa 71st (2.76 million containers), Alexandria in Egypt 90th (1.81 million containers), Lomé in Togo 99th (1.5 million containers), Mombasa in Kenya 106th (1.41 million containers), and Lagos in Nigeria 115th (1.30 million containers)».

Globally, Tanger Med ranks on top of the ports of the Panama Canal (Colon), Seattle and Savannah (USA), Felixstowe (UK), Santos (Brazil), Mundra (India), and Vancouver (Canada).
