Morocco : Fruit and vegetable exports to Spain increase by 18%

Spain's imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from Morocco has reached 548 million euros during the first half of 2020, recording an 18% increase compared to 2019, according to the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers-Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables (FEPEX).

The professional organization announced on Monday that the volume of Moroccan imports amounted to 358,329 tonnes between January and June 2020.

The same source indicates that Morocco is strengthening itself «as the leading supplier to the Spanish market for fresh fruit and vegetables, representing 47% of imports from third countries».

During the first half of 2020, imports rose from 214,215 in 2016 to 358,329 tonnes in 2020. In value, they moved from 312.3 million euros to 548, FEPEX reports.

In 2019, the European Union also imported 1.4 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables from the North African region, 4% more than in 2018 and 40% more than the average for the last five years, according to FEPEX.
