Spain : The number of migrant arrivals by sea drop by 19%

The number of migrants arriving by sea in Spain fell by 18.7% at the end of August, compared to the same period the previous year, according to the Spanish Ministry of Interior.

12,532 migrants reached the Spain by sea during the first eight months of 2020, while 15,408 others did the same during the previous year, a drop of 18.7% (-2 876), states a report from the ministry.

During this same period, a total of 830 boats had arrived on the Spanish coasts compared to 604 at the end of August 2019, an increase of 37.4% (+226).

These figures thus confirm the downward trend in the number of migrants arriving in the Iberian country, recorded in recent years.
