At the opening of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 75), the South African President said reaffirmed his country’s support for the Polisario.

Speaking on Tuesday, Cyril Ramaphosa called for «an end to the illegal occupation of Western Sahara and for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination».

While his country holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, South Africa is also a member of the Security Council until December 2020.

For the record, the Security Council is expected to hold, in a few weeks, working sessions on the Western Sahara question, before issuing a new resolution on the matter and extending the mandate of MINURSO.
